The_Sword_of_Summer

The book I read was The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan. This book is 512 pages long. Rick Riordan also wrote The Hero of Olympus series and The Kane Chronicles. If you like Harry Potter books, then you’ll also like The Sword of Summer. If you like mythology books or adventure books, then this is a great book for you.

Magnus Chase is a Boston orphan ever since his mother’s mysterious death. He is been either running from truant officers and police officers, or pick-pocketing for two years now. One day, his uncle and cousin are looking for him. He hears them say that his uncle Randolph is looking for him, a man his mom said was dangerous. Randolph finds Magnus and tells him that he is the son of a Norse god. They go to the bridge after hearing explosions and Randolph tells Magnus to pull a sword out of the river. A fire giant named Surt appears and demands to have the sword. They get into a battle and Surt creates extreme heat but Magnus finds that it does not affect him. Magnus’s friends, Blitz and Hearth, come to help him, but they can not do much. Magnus has to choose whether to save his life or the lives of hundreds of innocent people around him. He attacks and stabs Surt and they both fall over the bridge, the sword still in Magnus’s hand. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die.

I love the point of view of this book! It is first person and you can hear Magnus’s thoughts and ideas. I like books when you are in the main character’s point of view because you feel like it is happening to you. The cool thing about the book is that it is also second person. Magnus talks to the reader and tells you things like not to die in agony. Read The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan.
